On our Stories page, we’re proud to share a growing collection of community voices that bring Medway’s past to life. A recent highlight is our short film created with the Gillingham FC Supporters Club, capturing the passion, identity, and camaraderie of local football fans. We’re also preparing to record interviews at Rochester Cathedral as part of their exhibition on the remarkable but often overlooked history of the Short Brothers, one of the world's first pioneers in aircraft manufacturing, playing a globally significant role in aviation history. OHM an Rochester Cathedral hopes this exhibition will spark local families’ interest in Medway’s rich industrial and engineering heritage. Alongside this, the Twydall project gathered residents’ recollections of working life, childhood, and community in this distinctive part of the Medway Towns.

By highlighting working-class voices, the often-overlooked significance of Rochester’s contribution to aviation history, alongside stories of leisure, the music scene, and everyday community life, Oral History Medway is ensuring that the voices of the past are not only preserved but truly heard.
